{"id":226308,"date":"2026-10-09T00:47:56","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T05:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/knottscholar.org\/?p=226308"},"modified":"2026-10-09T00:47:56","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T05:47:56","slug":"james-mccormick-a-scholars-summer-of-faith-service-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/knottscholar.org\/es\/james-mccormick-a-scholars-summer-of-faith-service-education\/","title":{"rendered":"James McCormick \u2014 A Scholar\u2019s Summer of Faith, Service &#038; Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For Mount St. Mary\u2019s University junior and current Knott Scholar <strong>James McCormick<\/strong>, summer was an opportunity to put faith, leadership and service into action.<\/p>\n<p>James began his summer in Washington, D.C., attending the <strong>Adrien Nyel Institute<\/strong>, a program of the De La Salle Christian Brothers that gave him the opportunity to explore the vocation of education, learn from current teachers and discover ways educators can inspire others.<\/p>\n<p>He then took those lessons to Buffalo, New York, where he participated in a summer mission through the <strong>Lasallian Bold Brotherhood program<\/strong>. At St. Joseph\u2019s Collegiate Institute, James taught math to rising eighth graders and helped lead afternoon activities.<\/p>\n<p>His summer also included attending <strong>District Day<\/strong> in Lincroft, New Jersey, an annual gathering recognizing the vows of the Lasallian Christian Brothers.<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, James continued his commitment to service through <strong>Operation Mato Grosso<\/strong>, volunteering on projects that raise funds to support people in need in South America and participating in a summer work camp in the Baltimore area.<\/p>\n<p>From exploring a possible future in education to teaching, serving and deepening his faith, James filled his summer with experiences that reflect what it means to use your talents in service to others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough these experiences, I gained insight into how to be an educator and how to inspire others,\u201d James shared.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/knottscholar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Knott-Scholarship-Funds-A-Scholars-Summer-of-Faith-Service-Education-2.webp\" alt=\"Knott Scholarship Funds - A Scholar\u2019s Summer of Faith Service &amp; Education\" width=\"525\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For Mount St. Mary\u2019s University junior and current Knott Scholar James McCormick, summer was an opportunity to put faith, leadership and service into action.
